Guitar Methods and Billy Bean Biography
Unsatisfied with the hundreds of method books for guitarists, Dr. G decided to start a series of books in 2014 that would better serve the needs of developing guitarists.
A Guitarist’s Guide series of books provides guitarists a creative-based approach to learning chords, music theory, reading, and harmonizing melodies. The series draws on Dr. G’s experience of more than three decades as a guitar teacher, musician, and student.
Beginners and advanced guitarists have found significant benefits from the books. Other guitar teachers have had great success using them. The methods can be applied to any musical style, from jazz and classical to rock and country.
All of Dr. G’s published books are available in printed and eBook (digital) formats through Red Note Press. Free video tutorials from several of his books are also available on his YouTube channel.
Video courses will soon be available for each book in the series. These lessons will demonstrate the concepts and provide real-time examples for the player.
Dr. Seth Greenberg’s first book, a highly acclaimed biography about the incredible jazz guitarist Billy Bean. Based on over a decade of research and interviews with Billy Bean, his family, friends, and fellow musicians, this book comprehensively details his life and music career. Currently, in its third edition, the biography is available in abridged and unabridged editions.

Chord Construction
A method for effectively learning how to build chords on the guitar without having to memorize shapes. Covers all chord types and families (e.g., major, minor, minor 7th, dominant, half diminished, fully diminished, and augmented), including root-position and inversions. Applied to any musical or guitar-playing style. Suitable for beginners, no knowledge of music theory is required.
The newest addition to “A Guitarist’s Guide” series, these two volumes will optimize your music reading faster and more effectively than the hundreds of methods available by others. No previous music reading experience required. Written for both fingerstyle and pick (plectrum) players. Former studio guitarist, Jimmy Bruno called the books, “The best I have ever seen for reading.”
Music Reading
All of the fundamentals you should know as a guitarist, presented in a logical, easy-to-understand fashion. This method presents music theory in an applied, practical manner. Much more than a collection of musical information, the creative-based approach allows guitar players to absorb and remember the theory learned.
Music Theory Fundamentals
For players who have a good sense of how to form chords on the guitar, this book presents a unique and creative way to harmonize any melody with any chord type; this provides the player with a creative approach to harmonizing melodies, regardless of the musical style.
